Happy Birthday America!!
Inspired by the movie, "Born on the 4th of July" (1989)
In celebration of the 4th of July we salute America with a video of Bruce Springsteen singing his hit “Born in the USA.” Our recipe is "America’s Parfait" inspired by the movie “Born on the 4th of July” starring Tom Cruise in his Oscar nominated role of Ron Kovic. He returns home from fighting in the Vietnam War as a quadraplegic. After months of torture in rehabilitation, he finds renewed purposed protesting the war. Ron said to a reporter at a protect rally “People say, if you don’t love America get the hell out, well I love America.” Indeed Ron Kovic’s voice was America voice!
2 cup of sweet fresh blueberries (rinsed with cold water twice), add 2 tablespoons of sugar 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, and mix gently in a bowl
2 cup of Vanilla Low Fat Yogurt
2 cup of sweet fresh strawberries (rinsed with cold water twice) cut into mouth size cubes, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice from fresh lemon , add 2 tablespoons of sugar and mix gently in a bowl
Using 4 dessert glasses, add ½ cup of blueberries to the bottom of 4 dessert glasses, then add ½ of a cup vanilla low fat yogurt, finally add, ½ of strawberries as the top layer for each glass.
Optional: Can be prepared with less sugar or a sugar substitute.
